LGBT History Month Durham!

This year the LGBTA are organising a whole host of events to celebrate LGBT history month which aims to celebrate the lives and achievements of the LGBT community. Keep checking back for more information!!

Friday 1st February
8pm – College bar crawl launch party!
This year we are going to be launching LGBT history month in style, so join us for a Bailey bar crawl meeting in Cuth’s bar at 8pm and finishing in Varsity at 11pm! If you’re going to be joining us late then we should be in Chad’s bar at 9.30pm!

Tuesday 5th February
7pm – Talk by Dr. Jamie Lawson from the anthropology department in ER140
8.30pm – One World Week themed pub quiz night at the newly redesigned Riverside Bar in the DSU! Hosted by the LGBTA, this will be the launch night of a regular DSU quiz and will feature general knowledge questions with a round based on One World Week – so get revising!

Wednesday 6th February
4pm – ‘Everywhere and Nowhere: Stories of Sexualities and Schools’ with Dr. Simon Forrest ER152

Thursday 7th February – Double Film night!!
7pm – Transamerica
9pm – Imagine Me and You
The break inbetween the films will be used for ordering pizza (of course!) The films will be shown in John’s college TV room (near the bar) or you can meet us at 6.30pm outside Tesco in Market square to walk down with an exec member.

Monday 11th February
7pm – DocSoc screens ‘The Celluloid Closet’ in ER142 – a documentary about how hollywood films have historically portrayed LGBT characters. Entry is free for DocSoc members or £1 for non-members.

Tuesday 12th February
7pm – ‘The Declining Significance of Homophobia: How Male Youth Became Pro-Gay’ – talk by Dr. Mark McCormack (Sociology) in ER140

Wednesday 13th February
4pm – ‘Why do we need LGBT communities?’ by special guest Dr. Catherine Donovan from The University of Sunderland in ER153
7.30pm – Cult Film Soc screen “Priscilla: Queen of the Desert” in Elvet Riverside followed by a trip to the Swan & Three Cygnets pub to discuss the film.

Thursday 14th February
12 – 2pm – Stall at Durham’s One Billion Rising event (https://www.facebook.com/events/316957325080106/?ref=ts&fref=ts) in the Market Square
8pm – Girls, Boys and Non-Binary socials! (locations tbc)
This is a chance to relax with people of the same/similar gender identities and these socials are usually very popular. This is a great chance to join us to meet some new likeminded people before heading on to So Outrageous (LGBT night at Market Vaults).

Saturday 16th February
3pm – LGBT & Faith event with Rev. Jonathon Lawson in St. John’s College Hall

Monday 18th February
8pm – The LGBTA hits up Queen’s Campus. After the roaring success of our last QC social we will once again be holding our weekly social in the lovely Waterside Bar. If you’re travelling from Durham, we will be catching the 7.15pm bus from the stop opposite Elvet Riverside!

Wednesday 20th February – 7pm, Trans* 101. Location tbc.

Thursday 21st February
7.30pm – The deaf LGBT community, insight into research by Paul Michaels in ER157

Saturday 23rd February – Double Film night!!
7pm – Weekend
9pm – Better Than Chocolate

Wednesday 27th February
7.30pm – Cult Film Soc screen “Boys Don’t Cry” in Elvet Riverside followed by a trip to the Swan & Three Cygnets pub to discuss the film.

Thursday 28th February
8pm – ‘Love Music Hate Homophobia’ open mic night at Fishtank, comment below if you’re interested in playing or know anybody who might be!
