Assistant Campaigns Officer – J Smith

Posted on

Hi my name is J (they/them). I’m your assistant campaigns officer for this year. My main focus is working with Harriet to ensure we develop a wide range of intersectional campaigns both in ensuring we are engaging and supporting the most marginalised groups within our student community. But also in raising awareness and marking different liberation days, weeks and months including but not limited to Ace, Demi and Pan visibility days, AroSpec Awareness Week and LGBT, Women’s and Sexual Assault Awareness Months. I’m keen to work in ensuring all student have the chance to get involved in organising their own campaigns, which are focused around raising awareness and helping to improve the quality of life and support for LGBTQIA+ students within the university and Durham. Three of these areas so far are focusing around campaigning for accessible and affordable sanitary products for students who experience menstruation, accessible gender neutral toilet facilities on campus and in each college and working with our Students with Disabilities rep and Students with Disabilities Association to support neurodivergent and student carers within our association and student community. If you’re interested in getting involved with any of the campaigns or ideas for running your own please don’t hesitate to get in touch with either Harriet or me.
